A driver found the body of a teenager wrapped in plastic under a car in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn early Christmas Eve morning, 1010 WINS reported.
Ashraf Ali, 27, discovered the body while leaving his job at the Dunkin’ Donuts factory with co-worker William Acevedo early Thursday morning, Gothamist said. As Ali steered his Altima out of a space in front of 180 27th Street he felt something under his car, reported the New York Post. He exited the car to find the body of 19-year-old Daniel Vargas enveloped in plastic and left under the car near the Gowanus Expressway, according to 1010 WINS.
Vargas was badly beaten with a blunt object and strangled, Ellen Borakove of the Medical Examiner’s Office told the Post. The Daily News reported the death has been ruled a homicide.
Investigators believe Vargas was killed elsewhere and his body deposited near the Gowanus, the Daily News said. Security cameras near the scene show the body being dumped late Wednesday night, soon before Ali found it, the Post reported.
Vargas lived on Sixteenth Avenue in Bensonhurst, according to The Village Voice. Vargas used to work at a local deli, and walk his pet poodle around his Brooklyn neighborhood. Neighbors told the Daily News Vargas was a quiet, polite young man.
